This past summer, I learned so much interning in the Development department at North Carolina Theatre. Going into this internship, I just knew I wanted to learn as much as possible about what goes on behind the scenes of a nonprofit arts organization. I got just that and so much more. Through being a part of the office environment, interacting with those NCT impacts, and working on projects that really made a difference, I found a passion for development and fundraising, and gained confidence in my abilities.

The most rewarding part of this internship was that I was working on projects that were productive and demanding. I worked on email campaigns, grant narratives, and developed impact stories for future development campaigns. I also collaborated on creating the Newsies study guide. I loved being able to apply my creative skills to real-life projects. My overall favorite experience about working with North Carolina Theatre was being a part of an incredibly important community. I had the opportunity to interact with donors at the Backer’s Club before Pippin and Newsies shows. This was so rewarding because I got to meet those who are passionate and invested in the mission of North Carolina Theatre.

Interning at North Carolina Theatre opened my eyes to all of the hard work and dedication that is put into nonprofit theatre. I had the opportunity to collaborate with other interns, and I felt like I was a part of the workplace environment, which is rare and special. Every day, I was inspired. I have learned so much this summer, and I am more confident in my career path. North Carolina Theatre gave me the tools and insight I need to continue to pursue my dream of arts management.
